Jun. 18th, 2009 05:40 pmSo many new people entered my life and left an imprint in my mind. Today was just one of those days when I realized how much I appreciate nice people and how much I hate people who are rude. Interestingly enough, I got a double whammy. *grin*
CY left early this morning for her visit to the Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired. There was a terrible storm outside and that was actually what woke me up. Seeing J again was awesome. It was super early for me though, barely 6 AM when they walked out the door. I milled about, watched some TV, ate a pizza for one, and fell back asleep. CY was nice enough to let me have access to her food and her TV. *smile* I owe her one.
I awoke at about 10 and panicked because I only had an hour to get to the DRS office located near the Dekalb Jewel Osco. I was nowhere near that location. I called the Freedom Mobile and they said that they couldn't give me a ride because I was not a student or faculty member at NIU. I figured it would get ugly and rules are rules, so I left the issue. I called Dekalb's paratransit and they said that I had to be a registered resident to get a ride. I ended up taking a taxi from CY's apartment. It cost me $13 including tip. The driver, however, was very nice. We talked about dogs. He dropped me off at Jewel and I walked over to the DRS office. It was a short walk in which Jim impressed me with his skills as a guide.
My meeting with BM went really well. We discussed my plan for the next year. I told her that I will be attending MCC for the fall and NIU for the spring, if all goes well, that is. I'm sure it will though. My goal is to graduate by or before May 2012. I can't believe that DRS didn't kick me out. She said that I had a grace semester to bring up my grades, which I did. I have no doubt that I will get my degree by that time. I have more than a sliver of hope when it comes to what I want to accomplish in school. I returned to Jewel to take the bus to Walmart.
Jewel's associates were very unhelpful when it came to telling me where the bus stop was. I finally entered the Osco side. A guy was busy paying for his booze when I asked the cashier about the buses. She didn't know. The guy, however, offered me a ride which I gladly accepted. He seemed nice enough. I didn't notice the tattoos all over his arms until I sat net to him in the passenger seat. I asked him if he was also going to Walmart. He replied that he was actually there before he came to Jewel Osco. He said that he felt bad that I had to stand in the rain and wanted to help me out. What a great guy... I also found out that he lived in Dekalb and wasn't a student at NIU. I said my godbye and he drove away. Regardless of how much I hate people, this guy was a saint. *grin* He was also very cute. *wink*
Originally, my plan was to go to Walmart and Kohl's. I ended up getting what I needed and waited for the bus. I didn't have enough hands to buy Alicia's gifts for the bridal shower. While at Walmart, I encountered many individuals who talked about Jim. I hate it when people say things loudly about me or my dog as if I wasn't even there. Some were obnoxious and some were discreet. Either way, I really dislike it when people talk about me. This is one of the reasons why I don't want to audition for Idol. I don't want to be remembered as "the girl with the dog", "the blind girl", etc.
The bus ride from Walmart to the student center was alright. There were no crude commentary, I just got one question about Jim. Of course, it was "is that a labradoodle?" I answered and smiled. The chick asking the question was really nice, so I didn't have a problem with her. I was glad for the cool bus bcause it was really humid outside. When I transferred buses, the driver was kind of a jerk to me when I asked him what route I was going to be on. The bus itself was hot and humid with the top vents open and children in the back making noise and chatter. I was getting irritated because of the heat. A man entered the bus and sat next to me. He was really close to Jim. He asked me questions and so forth. It just kind of creeped me out because he had that creeper disposition. After waiting fo about ten minutes, we lurched foward. I met a nice man and his asistant. They were really curious about Jim and talked well of him. I was on the bus for about half an hour. The man who was kind of creepy, bade me goodbye. He was nice, he just kind of creeped me out. Not a problem. Then there was a woman I was annoyed with who called Jim a rat. She was like "Oh! A dog! I thought that was a rat or somethin'..." She said it like I wasn't there. What the hell?! The bus dropped me off about 100 yards from CY's building. I wasn't to thrilled about walking back to the building carrying all of my bags. I had asked the driver if he could stop closer, he refused.
I've been here ever since. I was lazy and ate some food while watching TV. The entire trip back to CY's apartment from Walmart took almost 2 hours. Jim was tired and went to sleep. My day was OK thus far. Tomorrow is another adventure along with turning my geography homework in.
